Wild day in Coire Ardair

6th January 2023

A wild and windy day on Creag Meagaidh today. I went into Coire Ardair, to have have a look at both the snow and the ice. Winds in the Coire were very gusty, calm, strong gust the next. Snow wise things were pretty wet, but a reasonable covering. Ice wise, some has definitely formed, most of the classic routes are looking reasonably white at least. It is probably pretty cruddy at the moment, but should improve with further thaw freeze cycles which are forecast.

The Loch with Pinnacle Buttress behind. The water was tropical 1.4 degrees C for all those wild swimmers out there. An  interesting Freudian slip was when I initially typed the sentence above I said got one letter wrong and typed wind swimmers, which to be fair felt more like what I was doing today.

Pinnacle Buttress and the Post face

Avalanche Debris in the Inner Coire. Probably due to cornice collapse in the mild conditions yesterday late afternoon/evening.

The crags of the Inner Coire.

Another Inner Coire Shot.
