Back to Black

18th March 2023

(Above) The Post face of Coire Ardair.  Much more black than white today – though russet, khaki and green predominate elsewhere – see final photo. Water temperature in Lochan a Choire was a chilly +1.9 degrees C. this morning. Wild swimmers might be put off by the ice cover but the rain didn’t seem to dampen the spirit of the many hillwalkers I came across in Coire Ardair.

(Above) Easy Gully. Coire Ardair. Lots of drippy ice on the crags above Easy Gully; there was a full-on cascade immediately adjacent to the start of Centre Post. The snow is moist but well-bonded.

(Above) The Inner Coire of Coire Ardair. Evidence of recent rockfall on the north-facing side which is no surprise given the mild temperatures and rainfall.

(Above) Looking west from Cromra towards Sron a Ghoire. Persistent cloud base at 800m for most of the day.

    Back to Black….Amy’s final album?
And….at .last spring has arrived here in Bristol.
As far as I can determine….Scotland didn’t have a winter.

I toyed with ‘Paint It, Black’: old skool certainly, it’s just that Amy’s encapsulated it perfectly!
