1st day of the 2023/24 winter season. Very limited snow!

14th December 2023

Alrighty.

We’re back!

(Above) Ice floes fringe Lochan a Choire at the far end of Coire Ardair but only 4 degrees C. air temp down in the base of the coire today.

There’s some narrow ice in the principal narrow water courses of the Post Face, relics of the much more wintry weather of a week or so ago. Very little old snow and only a thin cover of superfical fresh snow on bare ground above 850m today and not enough for any appreciable avalanche hazard. Weather outlook is mild and damp initially with more seasonal conditions expected in the not too distant future.

The Window (centre) is a high bealach at 950m above the Inner Coire. Smears of ice are present to the right of the photo.
