White Christmas!

25th December 2023

Finally!

Snowfall down to 350m by lunchtime gave the Coire Ardair a thin mantle of snow. Light winds meant there was very little drifting down low (and up high) but it was good to see a cosmetic cover of the white stuff on Christmas Day.

Very murky indeed near plateau altitudes so little or nil opportunities for photography up high.

Boxing Day looking much better weather-wise. We received a late update to our official Met forecast indicating greater snowfall overnight Christmas Day into Boxing Day. Forecasted winds are light but close to a critical threshold for drifting.  Not anticipating any significant deep new windslab development but keep an eye for any that have developed at gully exits or near coire rims.
